Association for the Preservation of Historic Natchitoches Seeks Executive Director for Melrose on the Cane
NATCHITOCHES, La. (November 2025) – The Association for the Preservation of Historic Natchitoches (APHN) is now accepting applications for the position of Executive Director at Melrose on the Cane, one of Louisiana’s most treasured historic landmarks.
Located along the scenic Cane River, Melrose on the Cane is a National Historic Landmark known for its rich Creole history and as the home of renowned folk artist Clementine Hunter. The Executive Director will lead the organization’s efforts to preserve, interpret, and promote the site’s unique heritage while overseeing daily operations, programming, and community engagement.
“This is an exciting opportunity for a dynamic and passionate leader to guide one of Louisiana’s most beloved historic properties,” said APHN President Gina Puls. “Melrose on the Cane has an extraordinary story to tell, and we’re looking for someone who can help ensure its legacy continues to inspire future generations.”
The Executive Director serves as the chief administrator for APHN, responsible for strategic planning, fundraising, volunteer coordination, and stewardship of the Melrose on the Cane property. Ideal candidates will have experience in nonprofit or cultural resource management, historic preservation, or museum administration, with strong leadership and communication skills.
Compensation includes salary and on-site housing at Melrose on the Cane.
